Emergency Response and Recovery: SRAC’s Lifesaving Efforts in Disaster-Prone Sylhet

Sylhet, a region highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods and cyclones, frequently faces humanitarian crises that disrupt lives and livelihoods. In response, SRAC has been at the forefront of emergency relief and long-term recovery efforts, ensuring that affected communities receive timely support and are equipped to rebuild their lives.

Through its Emergency Response & Humanitarian Assistance Program, SRAC mobilizes rapid response teams to deliver immediate aid, including food, clean water, medical supplies, and temporary shelters. Collaborating with government agencies and international donors, SRAC ensures that assistance reaches the most vulnerable populations efficiently and effectively.

Beyond emergency relief, SRAC emphasizes long-term recovery and disaster preparedness. The organization conducts capacity-building programs to train communities in disaster risk reduction (DRR), early warning systems, and sustainable rebuilding practices. A notable example is the House Building for the Poor (DRR Project), supported by Muslim Charity UK, which constructs flood-resilient homes and promotes community resilience.

Healthcare is another critical component of SRAC’s emergency response strategy. Through its Rural Health Service Program and partnerships with the Ministry of Health, SRAC provides essential medical services, including maternal and child healthcare, vaccination drives, and mental health counseling, to disaster-affected areas.

As climate change exacerbates the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, SRAC remains dedicated to strengthening community resilience in Sylhet. By combining immediate relief with long-term recovery efforts, the organization ensures that vulnerable communities are not only prepared for disasters but also empowered to rebuild sustainably.
